Chicken Sale and Recipe for Chicken Tacos
Ziehm Greenhouse and Produce has cleaned and wrapped chickens for sale Monday March 5, 2012. It's never been easier to buy a chicken from the Ziehm family...just call 810-531-0275 to order your chicken whole or pieced out. And to get you started on a wholesome chicken dinner, here's something different that the family doesn't always get to have: Authentic shredded chicken tacos...a yummy winter favorite done in the slow cooker, so you don't have to slave over them.
1 whole Ziehm Greenhouse and Produce cleaned chicken
2 Cups Water
1 bay leaf
1 cup Sofrito sauce (available in quarts from Ziehm Greenhouse) or 1 cup tomato sauce...if using tomato sauce add more cumin, oregano, and 1 tsp red wine vinegar...it won't be exactly the same, but it'll be better than just tomato sauce)
1 cup prepared Mexican salsa (available in pints from Ziehm Greenhouse)
1 cup chicken broth from the slow cooker
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground oregano
salt and pepper to taste.
Rinse and dry chicken and place in slow cooker with bay leaf and two cups water. Cook on low all day until you get home from work.
Remove cooked chicken from cooker and shred chicken into a large sauce pan. Chicken will fall off the bone. Discard bones and skin.
Add Sofrito sauce, salsa, chicken broth, cumin, oregano and salt and pepper to taste, and simmer over medium heat until flavors are combined...about 20 minutes.
Serve chicken wrapped in small flour tortillas with taco fixings...shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes and onions, sour cream and/or guacamole. Add a side of refried beans and mexican rice for a full meal your family is sure to love.
